The other night, I had the amazing opportunity to take my almost-4-year-old son and his best friend from school, along with his mom, to see Disney on Ice – Let’s Celebrate!. As we embarked on our journey, little did we know we would encounter an unexpected obstacle – crazy traffic! Despite the delay and the challenge of convincing two energetic preschoolers to eat their dinner, we managed to make it to the show, albeit a few minutes late (can you believe it took us 75 minutes to drive just 20 miles?). But as we walked into the arena, the excitement in the air was palpable. Our seats were perfect, offering a great view of the action on the ice.
Let’s Celebrate! is a spectacular production that revolves around celebrating various events, such as birthdays, holidays, and summer vacations. It kicks off with a vibrant birthday celebration featuring our beloved Mickey Mouse. One of the highlights of the show was when Mickey tried to recruit some assistance for the post-party cleanup. However, as you can imagine, things didn’t quite go as planned. It was a delight to see the beautifully choreographed scene with skating brooms and Sorcerer Mickey’s attempt to gain control, all accompanied by the iconic piece, “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” by Paul Dukas from Disney’s Fantasia.
Next up was the Halloween party hosted by the charismatic Jack Skellington. The ice rink was transformed into a spooky wonderland, complete with eerie lighting effects and a parade of villainous characters. The boys were enthralled by the sword fighting between Jack Skellington and Captain Hook, bringing the excitement to a whole new level. Although the Halloween section had moments that were a bit intense for our little ones, it only added to the thrill and made the experience even more memorable.
Then came the highlight of the show for young princess enthusiasts like my son and his friend – the Princesses! Each princess made a memorable appearance, showcasing their unique charm and grace. However, some of the musical renditions were given a modern twist. The classic song “So This is Love” from Cinderella received an interesting update, to say the least. Nevertheless, the performance was still enchanting, and the overall production truly captured the essence of Disney magic.
This nearly 2-hour show, including an intermission, provided us with a much-needed Disney fix. During the break, we had the chance to explore the merchandise stands and indulge in some delightful treats. Unfortunately, I forgot to retrieve the toy, food, and souvenir cups I had purchased beneath my seat. A small oversight, but it didn’t dampen our spirits one bit.
The show was a wonderful opportunity for us to spend quality time with our friends and stay up late, breaking our usual routine. The children thoroughly enjoyed it, although my son, being an early bird, started to wind down before the show concluded. However, the sleep deprivation only became a challenge once we arrived home, three hours past bedtime! A gentle reminder that late-night adventures often come with a price.
Overall, the experience left us craving more live Disney events in our area. Next time, we’ll make sure to arrive early and take advantage of the meet and greet opportunity during the intermission. It’s a fantastic chance for families who haven’t had the opportunity to visit the Disney Parks to meet Mickey Mouse or to gauge how their kids react to the beloved characters before planning a trip to Florida.
For those concerned about the chilly temperatures, fear not. I discovered that wearing layers was the key to staying comfortable during the show. Surprisingly, I even found myself removing my coat and sweater, proudly revealing my Mickey Mouse t-shirt underneath. Although I can’t speak for the seats right on the ice, sitting about 15-20 rows up provided a comfortable temperature.

It was a night filled with laughter, excitement, and unforgettable memories for both children and adults alike. I can’t wait for the next opportunity to immerse ourselves in the enchanting world of Disney.
